From Br Steve Hogan fsc
Greetings,
Governed by a values-based education, it is our intent to form young men and women confident and articulate but also aware of their responsibility to include and respect each other in all we think, do and say.
Pope Francis’s reminds us:
Lent is a favourable time to seek out, and not to avoid, those in need; to reach out, and not to ignore, those who need a sympathetic ear and a good word; to visit, and not to abandon, those who are lonely. Let us put into practice our call to do good to all.
One thing that helps is to slow down, even for just a moments quiet, to gain a sense of calm; a sense of mindfulness; a sense of God’s presence. I encourage all staff, students and parents, even though we are so busy, to take a moment, to have a cup of tea or sit on the porch or listen to soothing music, and to take a breath.
We can learn from the wisdom of tradition and integrate the new where it helps and enhances. Values help form attitudes of life. Essential attitudes are being positive, and resilient, but also being willing and prepared to put in the hard work required to achieve one’s aspirations.
I commend Year 12 for knuckling down and working hard to achieve their aspirations and attain their personal best in their recent half-yearly exams. This will improve class averages that will help them in the moderation and scaling processes of the HSC and ATAR.
I commend all students who participated in an ISA summer sport, working hard, building teamwork and resilience – important values that help form positive attitudes for a good, healthy life.
I commend students for their approach to learning this term. As I visit classes students are focused, hardworking and are able to articulate clearly and comprehensively what they are learning. A return to exercise books, dated with each day’s notes and exercises is making a huge impact on the quality of learning.
As we approach the end of Ramadan and lent wishing you all good health and God’s blessings.
