Oakhill College, together with its community of staff, alumni, and families, is thrilled to announce the opening of a new Canteen at La Salle Technical School in Papua New Guinea, a project made possible through continued and significant fundraising efforts and contributions from Oakhill College alonside other Lasallian schools.
For many students at La Salle Technical School, who often walk hours to reach school, the Breakfast Club has been a vital program, providing essential meals that aid in daily nutrition and focus in class. These meals are not just about sustenance but are a crucial part of the students' journey towards future employment opportunities.
The new Canteen marks a significant advancement in these efforts, doubling the impact of the Breakfast Club by increasing its capacity to feed up to 200 students each day. This enhancement is expected to provide substantial support to the students, ensuring they receive the necessary nourishment to participate actively in their education.
Oakhill College takes pride in its strong legacy of volunteering, with numerous alumni having dedicated their early mornings to prepare and serve meals, starting their day at 5:30 AM to ensure that everything is ready by 7:00 AM. Their commitment continues beyond breakfast, as they clean up and then head to the market to secure ingredients for the following day’s meal.
This project exemplifies the spirit of service that defines the Lasallian educational community, and Oakhill College is proud to be a part of this life-changing initiative. As a community, we continue to uphold our mission to not only educate but also to nurture and support those in need, embodying the true Lasallian spirit of service and community aid.
