Oakhill College has a tradition of conducting immersion trips in the holidays to support the work of the Lasallian Foundation. This is an important component of Mission at Oakhill where we work to raise awareness and help marginalised children overseas.
We invite interested Year 11 students to be part of this volunteer project, where we live and work in De La Salle projects in Fiji and India. We also invite Year 9 and 10 students to attend our cultural tour to Cambodia or Vietnam, which includes a Mission component.
Students and staff work throughout the year to raise money and awareness for brothers and sisters overseas. This money is used to fund building works, planting trees and painting cottages. We take the opportunity to assist with the students education by teaching English and sharing cultural experiences.
Apart from the obvious help and care we will be giving to our impoverished brothers and sisters in the Philippines and India, these opportunities enable our Oakhill students the chance to practice ‘Faith, Service and Community’ in the Lasallian tradition.
